The BJSS Wellbeing Group were interested in understanding if the consumption of sugary confectionary within the Bristol Office could be reduced. They hypothesised that; Moving the Biscuits and Chocolate out of the direct field of vision of staff members would result in a reduction in the consumption of such items.

The experiment produced some interesting results. With consumption of both biscuits and chocolate going down when they were out of sight in the cupboard.

When comparing consumption during the baseline 2 week period; when no changes were made, with the experimental 2 week period; when the confectionary had been moved to the cupboard, it was found that there was a 28.5% reduction in consumption of chocolates and a 4% reduction in consumption of biscuits.

Therefor, the hypothesis; Moving the Biscuits and Chocolate out of the direct field of vision of staff members would result in a reduction in the consumption of such items, was proven to be correct.

Interestingly, in a post experiment (self reporting) poll involving 34 members of staff, 76% said they felt that they have consumed less biscuits and chocolate since they had been moved into the cupboard.
