I do Research!
Hi! I’m a User Researcher based in Bristol. I do everything from; User Interviews and Usability Testing to Surveys and IA card sorting to name just a few methodologies.
I love my job because research is about understanding why people do the things they do but everyone is different, complex and riddled with contradictions meaning that every day is different and surprising.
I like to embed myself into the businesses I work with as I find this achieves the best results through promoting an open and collaborative partnership between myself, the work I am doing and the people throughout the business.
I have worked with many different clients, including; Sift Media, Innovate UK, Dyson, Virgin Media Business, Yell.com, The Co-Operative, HSBC, Sawdays, Happy City. But for me it isn’t so much about the client more the problem they are trying to solve.

Research Methodologies
Usability testing
Usability testing combines the 2 core elements of research - Listen & Observe. They are a great opportunity to put something in front of people and observe how they interact with it and what they are thinking while they are doing so. You can perform usability testing in a lab, a meeting room, a cafe and even across the world via video chat. And you can test everything from sketches on pieces of paper to fully functioning products, including; Websites, Apps, Games, Software, IOT and AI chatbots.
Surveys
Surveys can be used to quickly gather large amounts of data from a target audience. Whether that is your users experience of the checkout flow, pain points experienced during a support call or employee needs from an intranet system. The key things to remember with surveys is that they need to be timely, short and focus on a particular topic. You can create them quickly using an online tool and share them through social networks, email, promote them on your website to name just a few methods.
Interviews
Interviews are a wonderful way to investigate human behaviour and decision making, providing insights into people’s needs and pain points. Either through structured one on one interviews or more unstructured contextual interviews out in the field. They can be run in a lab, remotely over the phone/video chat, at a person’s desk or literally in a field! Interviews are a really flexible and adaptable way to listen to your users or stakeholders of users you don’t even have yet.
Information Architecture
The Information Architecture of any product, irrelevant of its complexity, is possibly one of the most neglected yet most important elements of any product. To get it right requires a combination of research methodologies including Analytics reviews, Interviews, Card sorting and tree testing studies and in addition to usability testing. Whether at the start of your project or near the end, IA research can be performed and the results will be worth it.
Workshops
Workshops are a great way to get together a group of people with varying perspectives, knowledge and needs to collaboratively work towards a collective understanding and vision. They can be run with members of staff and stakeholders or users from your persona groups to get under the skin of the problem, understand the needs and pain points from all directions and identify opportunities that will help meet and improve the overall experiences from all directions.
Expert & Competitor reviews
Expert reviews are an efficient way of assessing if your product development is headed in the right direction or identifying areas of concern in an existing product. Competitor reviews help to benchmark your service against competitors and comparators, identifying gaps and opportunities your business can pursue. In combination expert and competitor reviews will help to support the future of your business.
